LG

LG Electronics (LG) is a worldwide technology leader in mobile
communications, specializing in all UMTS (WCDMA), CDMA and
GSM handsets. With a full range of wired and wireless solutions,
the company is rapidly establishing a global presence and growing
its international market share in 3G handsets.

LG will continue to build on the success of its Black Label series,
the premium handset brand featuring LG Chocolate and LG Shine.
Another premium handset, PRADA Phone by LG, is the world’s first
full touch screen phone. It was created through a partnership between
LG and Italian fashion house PRADA.
LG will also build a foundation for future growth through its WCDMA
and HSDPA expertise while focusing on providing 3G phones to major
carriers. The company’s LG-KU250 handset, a sleek and slim 3G mobile
phone, was selected in 2007 for the GSM Association’s “3G for All”
campaign by a consortium of the twelve largest mobile operators.
To enhance profitability, LG will achieve operational excellence by
focusing on a global platform strategy, which is an effective way
to maximize profits with fewer models. The company’s 2007 shipment
goal is 78 million units, which is a 21 percent increase from 2006.

UMTS 3G handsets
Accurate assessments regarding the future potential of
3G mobile services
prompted early investment and development of 3G mobile
phones. Consequently,
LG Electronics was well positioned to supply a large quantity
of WCDMA handsets
to European 3G mobile operators, including Hutchison
Whampoa, Orange, and
Telefónica Móviles. LG Electronics was also selected as
the supplier of 3G mobile
handsets for Cingular, the largest mobile operator in the
U.S. As a result, LG
Electronics has solidified a position as the third strongest
player in the market,
and has laid the groundwork for entering the two largest
3G handset markets, Europe
and North America.
